Matt Martin, East Providence, 103 pounds
The Townies' sophomore completed a sensational season with a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory over defending state champion Nathan Myers of Hendricken in the 103-pound title match. That victory completed Martin's perfect season against Rhode Island competition. In his three state tournament matches before the showdown with Myers, Martin recorded a pin and two decisions by a combined total of 25-0.

Cole Henault, Burrillville, 112 pounds
An all-division selection last year at 103 pounds, the Broncos' senior star moved up to 112 pounds this season and became a state champion. He capped a great season with a pin of Warwick ace Frank Eldridge in the state tournament finals. That pin was Henault's third in four state tournament matches.

Jon Egan, South Kingstown, 119 pounds

The Rebels' senior became a state champion this season after finishing second in 2000. Last season, he was runner-up at 112. This season, he dominated the 119-pound competition. He won his first three matches of the state tournament with pins, then captured the title with a 12-7 decision over Cranston East star Ruben Rey. In addition to his state title, Egan also rolled to the championship in the South County Invitational with two pins and a superior decision.

Scott Pellerin, Mt. Hope, 125 pounds

The Huskies' senior won his second state title in three years in what was voted the most exciting match of the 2001 state tournament. A state champion as a sophomore, Pellerin added another title this year with a 6-4 overtime victory over Hendricken's Tony Turilli. Pellerin didn't have an easy road to the title. He earned his finals berth with a semifinal victory over Cranston East's Luis Felix, last year's 119-pound state champion. Pellerin also won the Class B sectional title the week before the state tournament.

Joe Turilli, Hendricken, 130 pounds

The Hawks' senior closed out his sensational high school career with another perfect season against Rhode Island competition. The undefeated 125-pound champion last year, Turilli moved up to 130 pounds this year and didn't have too many problems posting another undefeated season. He won the state title with pins in all four tournament matches, none of which went beyond three minutes. Over the past three seasons, he won three state championships and two New England titles.

Rich Boudreau, Warwick Vets, 135 pounds

Boudreau delivered key points in Warwick's successful quest for a second state team title when he completed his run through the 135-pound competition with a 5-2 victory over Ponaganset's Bob Lyons in the title match. The Hurricanes' junior, who posted a 15-0 record during the Class A regular season, had earned his title-round berth with two pins and a convincing 17-6 decision in his other tournament bouts. In addition to his state title, he also won the 135-pound crown at the Lancer Invitational in Connecticut.

Brett Richmond, South Kingstown, 140 pounds
Richmond progressed from a Class B all-division selection a year ago to a statechampion in his final year of high school competition. He closed out his career with a 7-5 overtime victory over Warwick's Manny Salema in the 140-pound title match of the Interscholastic League tournament. That victory was the culmination of a season that included many highlights, including the 140-pound championship at the Wilson-South County Invitational.

Keith McGinley, Cranston East, 145 pounds
It wasn't easy, but the 'Bolt's senior captured his second consecutive state title this season. The 140-pound champion in 2000, this season he moved up to 145 pounds and bested an extremely strong field for the state title. McGinley captured the crown with a 4-3 victory over Warwick's Kyle Woodbine. He also needed to battle all the way for a 9-7 victory over Hendricken's Paul Ruscetta in the semifinals. McGinley posted pins in his other two tournament matches.

Tyler Mason, Westerly, 152 pounds
The Bulldogs' senior won his second state championship this season. The 145-pound champ last year, Mason moved up to 152 pounds this season and rolled to another title. For the second straight year, he battled Ponaganset's Steve Robin for supremacy in his weight class and once again posted a 10-3 victory over the Chieftains' star. In his other three state tournament matches, Mason registered one pin and two decisions by a combined 23-1 point total.

Ed Pricolo, La Salle, 160 pounds
A key member of La Salle's Class A state championship football team in last fall, Pricolo gave La Salle its first state wrestling champion in several years. He won the 160-pound state title in a 6-4 battle against North Providence's Evan Gauvin. The state title match was a rematch of the Class C championship match in which Pricolo posted a 5-3 victory.

Chris Crofwell, Cranston West, 171 pounds
Crofwell completed his climb from an all-division selection last year to a statechampion this year with a 7-5 victory in the state championship match. A first-team Division A-2 selection last year at 160 pounds, Crofwell moved up to 171 this year and rolled into the state title match with two pins and an 11-5 decision in his first three tournament matches.

Joe Gravin, Warwick, 189 pounds
Runner-up at 171 pounds in 2000 as a sophomore, Gravina moved up to 189 pounds and rolled to an undefeated Class A regular-season record. He then played a major role in Warwick's successful defense of its team title by recording pins in three of his four matches en route to the 189 crown. In addition to his Rhode Island statechampionship, Gravina won titles at the Lancer and Ridgefield (Conn.) tournaments and the Warwick Invitational.

Justin Peno, South Kingstown, 215 pounds
The Rebels' senior dominated the 215-pound competition for the second consecutive year. He rolled into the title round of the 2001 state tournament with a pin and two decisions in which he outscored his opponents 25-2. He then won his second statetitle with a 7-4 victory over Cranston West's Matt Cuccio. He also won the 215 title at the Wilson-South County championships with three pins in a combined seven minutes.

Chris Hannon, North Kingstown, 275 pounds
Only a sophomore, Hannon already has earned first-and second-team All-Stateselections against the biggest wrestlers in Rhode Island. Runner-up to Justin Peno last year at 215 pounds, Hannon this year moved up to the top weight class and took home the title. He posted a pin in every one of his four state tournament matches. Included in the string of tournament falls was a second-period pin of Josh White, the South Kingstown senior star who had earlier defeated Hannon in the finals of the South County championships.
